TAI Delivers Second Locally-Converted Leonardo ATR-72 ASW Patrol Aircraft to Navy Our Bureau 1830 Turkey s ATR-72 ASW patrol aircraft. Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) has received the second Leonardo ATR-72 (P-72) anti-submarine warfare (ASW) patrol aircraft to the Navy. “We delivered our second P-72 Naval Patrol Aircraft within the scope of Meltem-3 Project. P-72 will serve as the strategic element of our Navy in defense,” Ismail Demir, the head of Turkey’s Defence Industries Presidency (SSB), tweeted today. The Navy received the first upgraded jet in December 2020. MELTEM-3 Project In mid-2021, Alenia Aermacchi signed an agreement with TAI for modification of six ATR 72 aircraft into ATR 72-600 ASW TMPA (Turkish Maritime Patrol Aircraft) configuration. The work to convert the “green” ATR 72-600 in ATR 72-600TMPA will be performed by TAI. The aircraft are being under the Meltem III programme.
