The Benue State Government in collaboration with two non-governmental organisations has repatriated 19 minors trafficked from Ushongo and Vandekya Local Government Areas of the state to Lagos for child labour.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Tabitha Gigi, received the victims on Sunday, as well as one of the traffickers arrested by the police from the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Force CID Alagbun Lagos state.
According to her, the partnership with NGOs on issues of rights abuses is yielding results as three other traffickers were arrested in Ushongo local government area on Saturday.
The Commissioner commended the NGOs – Eunice Spring of Life Foundation and the Break the Silence Initiative for mobilizing both human and financial support to investigate and track down the perpetrators leading to their arrest and the rescue of the 19 victims from Lagos state.

A 58-year-old man, Francis Abayomi, has been arrested by the Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for defiling a seven-year-old girl, Akinpelu Emmanuella, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Abayomi was said to have defiled Emmanuella on November 25, 2020 at Kutamiti Street at Bashorun.
The suspect, who was arraigned before the Magistrate in charge of Family Court 1, Iyaganku, Ibadan, S. H. Adebisi, was ordered to be remanded in NSCDC custody at the state headquarters, Agodi, Ibadan.

New Delhi, Jan 12 : The Delhi Police have helped reunite a hearing and speech impaired child with his family. The kidnapping report of the 11-year-old child was lodged at Dayalpur Police station on December 15 after he went missing.
During a routine visit to observation homes for counselling of missing children, the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of the South East district police came across a disabled child (facing hearing and speech impairment) who was admitted as a vagabond at the children home for boys at Lajpat Nagar.
