LGBTQ students sue Department of Education over religious colleges and universities

© Getty Images A groups of LGBTQ students have filed a lawsuit against the Department of Education over discriminatory practices at religious colleges and universities. The suit was filed by the Religious Exemption Accountability Project (REAP) by 33 current and former students in an Oregon federal court on Monday. The suit aims to “put an end to the U.S. Department of Education’s complicity in the abuses and unsafe conditions thousands of LGBTQ+ students endure at hundreds of taxpayer-funded, religious colleges and universities.” ADVERTISEMENT At issue is the religious exemption to Title IX, a federal law that prohibits institutions from discriminating against students on the basis of sex in its programs. The group claims that the religious exemption has allowed schools to continue with discriminatory practices.

Consumer bureau to enforce lending protections for LGBTQ individuals

© YouTube/RT America The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) said Tuesday it will enforce a federal ban on sex-based discrimination in lending cases where a customer is spurned because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The agency issued a rule Tuesday asserting that the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA) prohibits banks and lenders from rejecting credit and lending services to individuals because they identify as LGBTQ. “In issuing this interpretive rule, we’re making it clear that lenders cannot discriminate based on sexual orientation or gender identity,” said acting Director David Uejio. “The CFPB will ensure that consumers are protected against such discrimination and provided equal opportunities in credit.”

Newman, who has a transgender daughter, posted a video on Twitter Wednesday afternoon of her placing the flag outside her office after Greene called the Equality Act, which seeks to protect LGBTQ individuals from discrimination, “an attack on God’s creation” and “disgusting, immoral, and evil.”  In response, Newman tweeted the video and thought: “Thought we’d put up our Transgender flag so she can look at it every time she opens her door.”  ADVERTISEMENT Shortly after Newman posted the video online, Greene tweeted a video of Newman on the House floor promoting the Equality Act on the House floor, with Greene calling Newman’s daughter “your biological son.”
