The Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, Delta State University, Abraka branch, Monday Izu, who was last week abducted by gunmen while returning from an official assignment in Warri, has regained his freedom.
He was released alongside his driver after six days in captivity.
The abduction took place on the Eku-Abraka Road in the Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, where the gunmen lurked around a failed portion of the road.
PUNCH Metro gathered that Izu’s kidnappers established contact with his family on Saturday with his mobile phone.

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a suspected Internet fraudster popularly called yahoo boy with the corpse of his girlfriend after he was caught attempting to dump the body of the lady, Blessing Akpovwovwo, in a bush.
The suspect, said to be a resident of Urhuoka, Abraka in the Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state, is cooling his heels in police detention.
Sources said the suspect, whose identity has yet to be ascertained was nabbed by a passerby on Thursday evening, as he (the suspect) was attempting to dispose of the lifeless body of Blessing.
However, efforts to find her proved abortive till she was found in a cesspit at the back of their house on Tuesday, January 5, 2021.
The Delta State Police Command said it had launched a manhunt for the abductors of a 12-year-old girl, Blessing Imeh, who was found with a slit throat in Abraka, in the Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State.
Faceofmalawi learnt that Blessing went missing on January 1, 2021, while running an errand for her parents.
It was gathered that her cry inside the cesspit attracted another child, who raised the alarm.
Our correspondent learnt that the victim, after she was rescued, claimed that one of their neighbours identified as General, was among the three men that abducted her.

After several fruitless efforts were exerted to find her, another teenager was said to have found her in a cesspit behind their house on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, before raising the alarm.
Blessing was said to have testified that one of their neighbours, popularly called “General” and two other men allegedly kidnapped her.
