ADDIS ABABA, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) Ethiopia is to start importing COVID-19 vaccines in April, said Muluken Yohannes, Senior Advisor on Vaccination and related issues at the Ethiopia Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH), on Tuesday. Yohannes said FMoH is working with the Office of Ethiopia Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and the Office of Ethiopia President Sahle-Work Zewde to ensure COVID-19 vaccines start to enter Ethiopia soon. In addition, a taskforce has been established composed of members from development partners, government agencies, the Ministry of Health, and other stakeholders to coordinate COVID-19 vaccine related activities, Yohannes told state-owned newspaper Addis Zemen. The taskforce will also be given the responsibility to evaluate the performance of COVID-19 vaccine distribution activities, follow-up on COVID-19 related educational programs for the society, as well as control the quality and safety of COVID-19 vaccines imported into Ethiopia.

5:09 AM MYT ADDIS ABABA, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) Ethiopia will launch a face mask wearing campaign in the first weeks of 2021 as part of renewed anti-COVID-19 efforts, the Ethiopia Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) announced on Monday. FMoH said the face mask wearing campaign is aimed at reviving the waning habit of wearing face masks in public. The ministry said with educational institutions recently starting classes after an eight-month break, the face mask wearing campaign will be carried out to stem any possible significant rise of COVID-19 cases in schools and universities. Ethiopia confirmed its first case of COVID-19 on March 13.
