In some ways moving to Somerset feels like cheating

Now I’ve woken up in so many different places that some mornings I open my eyes and panic because I’m not sure where I am. A Cornish cottage? Rob’s spare room? Up a mountain in Wales? And so, to give myself some peace, I decide to rent in Somerset for a month to look at houses, and breathe.
When I was growing up, after Wales we moved to Somerset. I still know people dotted around, which feels important after Cornwall. In some ways Bath is as I remember it: posh. Although the alternative undercurrent that used to keep it grounded seems to have thinned out since I lived there. Frome, rough as anything when I was young, has now become a swinging outpost for the ’90s Notting Hill set, the kind of people you used to see backstage at Glastonbury Festival, which is probably how they first discovered Somerset.
