EU accounted for 97% of total UK fresh potato exports in March Potato trade data as up to the end of March 2021 has now been released by HMRC. Figures show that in March, both fresh and processed exports increased from February’s totals. Fresh and processed imports also increased on the month, whereas March’s seed exports and import figures were down. Exports Total fresh exports (EU and non-EU) for March totalled 11.4Kt, bringing the 2020/21 season-to-date total to 114.4Kt. This is 23.3Kt below the 5-year average (2015/16 - 2019/20) for fresh exports. The European Union (EU) accounted for 97% of the total fresh exports in March. This figure was up 19% from February, but still lags EU average exports pre-end of the transition period (Jul-Dec). Key destinations for fresh exports in March remained the Irish Republic, Spain, and Belgium (ordered by volume). Exports to the Irish Republic increased notably on the month, by just under 1.5Kt.
