Memorial Day services planned across Muncie area over holiday weekend

Sunday, May 30 11 a.m., Bethel Cemetery annual Memorial Day Service, outside at the cemetery on Bethel Avenue just west of Delaware County Road 750-W. In case of inclement weather, the service will be held across the street at Bethel Church. All are welcome. 2 p.m., Union Cemetery Association Memorial Day Service, 16301 N. Ind. 3 N, Eaton. The program will be outdoors behind the chapel, weather permitting. Korean War veteran Earnest Waugh will be honored with a patriotic quilt. Alva Thomas Abrams, Rehoboth shop owner

May 11, 2021 Alva Thomas Abrams, 82, passed away peacefully at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas, Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021. He was born Feb. 23, 1938, in Allendale, S.C., to the late Marjorie Carter Abrams and Raymond Abrams. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Linda Pennington Abrams; his twin daughters Victoria (Jonathan) Aunet of Hockessin and Valerie (Jerry) Aunet of Landenberg, Pa. Al’s son, Christopher Michael Abrams, predeceased him in 2009. Al is also survived by his two stepdaughters, Andrea Schoch Brooks (Scott) of Hockessin and Laura Schoch Farach (Andrew) of Houston. He was the proud grandfather of nine: Jerry Aunet III, Amanda Padgett, Matthew Aunet, Brittany Aunet, Jordan Aunet, Liam Brooks, Natalie Farach, Sebastian Brooks and Simone Farach; and his four great-grandchildren: Aria Aunet, Lakely Padgett, Teagan Aunet and Lyle Padgett. He is also survived by his siblings: Phyllis Thielemann, Diane Doane, Winifred Dinehart and Raymond Abrams.

Epworth Church to close doors after more than a century of service in South Bend

SOUTH BEND — Jerry and Carol Mills visited Epworth United Methodist Church on the suggestion of friends. More than 40 years later, Carol Mills remains a member. It’s a place, she says, where she’s received spiritual sustenance and made a lifetime of memories. “I got involved with the choir and my husband was a trustee for many years,” she said. “We just decided that we liked it, and now as far as I am concerned, the people who I go to church with are my second family.” Her ties to her church family grew even stronger after Jerry passed away three years ago.

Eugenia Jean A Waters, had pet ministry

May 9, 2021 Eugenia Jean A. Waters, 76, of Rehoboth Beach departed this life Sunday, May 2, 2021, after complications from surgery. She was born Tuesday, Oct. 10, 1944, in New Haven, Conn., daughter of the late Anthony J. and Helen V. (D Albero) Marnett. Jean was a North Haven High School graduate, class of 1962, in North Haven. She took business courses in high school, and began her career as a secretary with the New Haven Railroad. She then moved on and became an administrative assistant for Dr. Schwartz in the psychology department at Yale University. Following her time in Connecticut, she then moved to the Mid-Atlantic area with her husband Dave and worked alongside him in his business, Autoport in New Castle. She was then an executive assistant at Speakman Company for over 20 years.
