Epworth UM Church food rescue doing a great job

Charlie Garlow December 31, 2020 Thanks to the volunteers at the Epworth United Methodist Church food rescue operation, who have been helping the hungry for over a decade. We learned about them at our last Green Drinks gathering.  They have teamed up with grocery stores and restaurants to rescue perfectly good food from the landfill dump. For example, fruits and vegetables are often tossed to make room for the delivery of new, fresher veggies, and the same with some milk/dairy products. Hundreds of thousands of pounds of this wonderful food is now saved for those who are food insecure thanks to the grocery stores and rescue volunteers who bring these goodies to the church for distribution to needy recipients.

Epworth UMC to host Christmas Eve service at Starcher mansion

Epworth UMC to host Christmas Eve service at Starcher mansion Suzette Lowe Reporter It may be slightly different than in past years, but Epworth United Methodist Church will host its annual Christmas Eve service. “Ripley Believes in Christmas: the Celebration of the Birth of Jesus” will begin at 7 p.m. outside the Starcher mansion. All those who attend will stay in their cars for the drive-in service. Epworth’s minister, Reverend Ford Price, said the decision to continue with the tradition was easy. “Normally Christmas Eve is our second largest service,” he said. “We have standing room only, so we were determined to find a way to continue safely. Bobbi and Allen Ferrell were gracious in offering the grounds behind the mansion for that evening.”
