POLICE are investigating the murder of a 44-year-old man who was shot dead on Sunday.
According to reports, Durell Simon was walking along River Branch Road in Caroni in the company of a woman, when two gunmen got out of a car and shot him several times.
Police were called in and when they arrived, they found Simon near a convenience store bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope where he died while being treated.
Police sources said Simon was well known by officers and said he was arrested on separate counts of drug possession and possession of arms and ammunition.

The fatal shooting of Doorel “Crime Boss” Simon, 44, of River Branch Road, Caroni, on Sunday night has brought the murder count to 385. Police said Simon’s murder was drug-related.
At about 10.10 pm officers responded to a report of shooting at River Branch Road, Caroni. Simon was found near the D&C Convenience Store with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) where he was later pronounced dead.

Eyewitnesses said Simon and a woman were walking south along River Branch Road when two gunmen came out of a silver vehicle and fired several shots at him.
Police suspect that the killing of Simon, 44, was drug-related.
He was convicted in June 2012 of the offence of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, and in March 2014 of possession of firearm and ammunition.
Police said that Simon was the organiser of a zesser party at Caroni last month, where 250 people were detained.
Police said that the property on which the party was held was owned by Simon.
A police report said that at around 9.55 p.m. police were told that a man was shot in the vicinity of D&C Convenience Store at Kelly Village.
Officers of the Central Division Task Force (North) and Caroni police responded and were told that the victim was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope.
