The League of Latin American Citizens and other allied organizations held a rally Saturday against Texas Senate Bill 3 legislation, which would affect social studies curriculum.
The rally, held at the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Plaza at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and attended by about 70 people, featured speakers from numerous organizations including LULAC Para Todos and the Corpus Christi American Federation of Teachers. There is so much culture, there are stories of struggle, there are stories of perseverance and we want to make sure that those stories and lessons are told in our public schools.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas State lawmakers have passed Senate Bill 3 during the special session which bans the teaching of critical race theory in Texas schools.
The bill would shrink the list of topics teachers must address in public schools but wouldn t prevent educators from discussing the topics in class.
Critical race theory is an academic discipline exploring the idea that race was created to suppress groups of people. Lessons on the Ku Klux Klan for example, and the civil rights movement would no longer be mandatory.
