Walter translates Nordic myths through filter of one-man band

Local poet and vocalist Jeremiah Walter always found the Norse myths centered on Odin, Freya and other deities a rich stew that was relatively untapped in modern interpretations. His new album, Eighteen Magic Spells (Jeremiah Walter Music), would fit in the pantheon of low-fi classics, except for the wealth of unusual musical instruments Walter brings to bear on the project. From banjos and ukuleles to khaens and krars, Walter infuses the stories with a mystical presence. The impetus for his project came from his wife, Darla Slee, who created Norse myth paintings for an exhibit. Walter pondered how oral myths are handed down for generations, and drew analogies to the written Norse myths of the 12th and 13th centuries, then their later transition to recorded music in 2021. Blindworm guitars heads in some fresh directions, more local music news

Blindworm Guitars has been an instrument manufacturing and repair shop since 2008. Founder Andrew Scott has been known for his extremely intricate woodworking skills and incredible instrument designs. After a year of worldwide pandemic and some health issues, Blindworm will continue, but will be moving in a different creative direction. “We had a great run as a high-end, local-focused guitar store and full-service repair shop. But after building well over 200 instruments and amplifier cabinets, my lack of regard for personal safety took a major hit on my lungs,” explains Andrew. “The docs eventually persuaded me to stop inhaling more dust, and pushed me to make a career change. COVID has been a weird chunk of time for us all. I spent most of it closing up shop, reorganizing and planning my future, and consulting the cosmos,” he says.
