Emi Sakura Joins AEW Full Time
The AEW women’s division is about to get a boost. AEW star and Japanese joshi legend Emi Sakura announced on Twitter earlier this evening that she is returning to the US with a one way ticket, indicating she has made the decision to join AEW full time going forward.
“I decided to go to America with a one-way ticket,” Sakura tweeted. “Please look forward to what happens to ChocoPro from now on. We are ChocoPro and we like a challenge. Now AEW Women’s Division, you better be ready. Emi Sakura’s looking at the top and Britt Baker looks very interesting.”
Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling Yes! Wonderland 2021: Introductions, Preview, and Predictions By Jericu on May 2, 2021, 2:30pm EDT 13
Around these parts, I am mostly known for talking about the AEW Women s Division, which mostly involves being mad at the bad booking of it. HOWEVER! There is another wrestling promotion I follow, another which I watch and hold dear to my heart, that being the Japanese women s promotion of Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling. It s great stuff, a fun promotion that holds many wrestlers I consider myself a big fan of. If you follow AEW, you might be a fan of a few of their talents as well; Yuka Sakazaki is a former Princess Tag Team and Princess of Princess champion, and AEW Women s Eliminator Tournament standout Maki Itoh makes her home in TJPW as well. My personal favorite, Shoko Nakajima, has made a couple AEW appearances as well, including this very good match against Riho from Dark which I am obligated to share whenever I mention the Big Kaiju.

Despite the fact that AEW Revolution had a card full of important matches, it seemed predetermined that the show would ultimately be judged on how they delivered on two specific elements: The mystery wrestler Paul Wight had teased on Wednesday, and how impressive the special effects in the main event would come across. If those aspects of the show delivered, Revolution would end up a huge success; if they underwhelmed, the show would struggle.
This was a major gamble by AEW; they could have had Jon Moxley and Kenny Omega wrestle in a more traditional match and it probably would have been really great. They also didn’t need to tease a major name signing with the company, which led to rampant speculation on social media over the last few days, which featured some really pie-in-the-sky predictions about The Rock, or John Cena coming to AEW.
