7 Dead After Gunman Opens Fire at Colorado Springs Birthday Party
Seven people are dead after a gunman opened fire at a birthday party in Colorado Springs on Sunday (May 9) morning.
According to 9News, the incident occurred shortly after midnight at a residence in the 2800 block of Preakness Way, when the boyfriend of one of the guests walked inside the residence and began shooting.
Upon arrival, police found six adults including the gunman, who committed suicide dead inside of the residence. Authorities transferred another adult victim to a nearby hospital, where they later died of their injuries.

Candles and flowers dotted a small but growing memorial Monday to six people gunned down in southeastern Colorado Springs early Sunday before police say the assailant fatally shot himself.
Police were tight-lipped on the incident Monday, releasing no new details on how the late-night birthday party at Canterbury Mobile Home Park on Preakness Way off Powers Boulevard turned into a nightmare around midnight, when a boyfriend of a female victim allegedly began shooting.
It was the worst mass killing in Colorado Springs since 1911, when six city residents were found dead in two neighboring houses, all killed with an ax.
The El Paso County Coroner’s Office said it plans to officially release the victims’ names Tuesday after autopsies are complete. As of Monday afternoon, half of the autopsies had been completed, a spokeswoman for the office said.

Officers arrived at the trailer home to find the six people dead and a man with serious injuries who died later at a hospital.
The shooter was the boyfriend of a female victim at a birthday party attended by friends, family and children. He drove to the home, walked inside and opened fire before killing himself, police said.

The first to arrive near the scene are told to hold back because of possible gunfire, then are given an initial all clear an agonizing 8-plus minutes after the first engine was dispatched
