Many more acts of support and sacrifice have taken place in health care settings behind the scenes since the pandemic’s start, from nurses and doctors making alternative living arrangements to avoid bringing COVID-19 home to the little ways in which people have supported each other in the face of so much stress and tragedy.
Gail Yeaton, 69, was one of the Benedictine residents who survived the illness.
“Twenty-four hours a day, someone was with me,” Yeaton said.
Sam Lewis turned 66 in the COVID-19 unit.
“They knew what they had to do and I thank them for that,” he said of his caretakers.

The first doses of the new Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine arrived in Minnesota on Wednesday, just days after receiving federal regulatory approvals.
An M Health Fairview facility in southeast Minneapolis took possession of 980 vials, enough to vaccinate 4,900 people.
Other health care providers in the state, including Essentia Health in Duluth, received the vaccine Wednesday as part of a shipment of 42,500 doses coming to Minnesota this week.
State officials are hopeful that the increasing supply of COVID-19 vaccines will significantly bump up the number of Minnesotans who get protection against the new coronavirus.

DULUTH, Minn. – Many Northlanders are left wondering what comes next in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
As concerns remain high, local hospital officials want to remind residents it’s safe, and important to continue scheduling routine medical exams and screening procedures.
Dr. Jon Pryor, President of Essenita Health in Duluth, says his facility is seeing a 33 percent decrease in the number of people coming in for colonoscopies.
“People are still afraid to come in even though it’s very safe. We are taking all of the preventative measures, many of our staff members have been vaccinated and continue to wear masks,” said Pryor.

DULUTH Nationally, only 13% of cardiologists are women, according to February 2019 data from the American Heart Association.
However, women make up nearly half of the cardiologists at Essentia Health in Duluth.
