Loretta Esther (Johnson) Knudson, 91, passed away on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at Essentia Health in Brainerd.
Loretta was born on September 20, 1929 to Nels and Esther Johnson. She grew up on a farm east of Brainerd along with her siblings Alice and Arne and attended Brainerd schools.
Loretta married Bob Knudson on June 2, 1950 and worked in the offices of Crow Wing Power and Light until they had their 4 children. She then raised her family and also had several part-time bookkeeping positions along the way. Loretta and Bob were long time members of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was active in many groups, one of her favorites being the quilting group. She enjoyed traveling with relatives and friends, sewing and other crafting, and always had baked goods ready if someone stopped by. Celebrating milestones of and holidays with family were very important, and she enjoyed all the planning and traditional preparations of these events.

Monday, Dec. 21, 2020, is a day history was made in Crow Wing County the two hospital systems administered their first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Health care workers at both Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd and Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby received vaccinations Monday. Receiving the first vaccine early Monday morning was Essentia’s Dr. Greg Davis, pulmonologist. Davis was expected to be followed by more than 110 other frontline workers at Essentia on Monday, according to a news release.
