Imperial County holding mass vaccination clinic for seniors

More vaccination clinics will be available as the county receives more
EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - A mass vaccination drive-thru clinic is scheduled for Thursday at the Imperial Valley College for people ages 65 and older.
The Imperial County Health Department said 1,300 COVID-19 vaccines doses will be applied by appointment only.
Health officials say anyone with COVID-19 symptoms will be unable to receive the vaccine that day.
Attendees should take a picture ID that includes their date of birth, along with a face covering.
Several agencies are partnering up to offer the vaccines for the community.

The U.S. Department of Education released $21.2 billion Thursday as part of the coronavirus relief legislation Congress and President Trump approved in December to help colleges and universities nationally. Of that amount, more than $2.83 billion will go to public and private California colleges and universities.

The Northern California region is the only one not under the stay-at-home order, and 98% of the state’s residents are under the order, Newsom said.
In response to increased hospitalization and ICU numbers, the state opened four alternative care sites for COVID and other hospital patients in areas that are completely full.
The alternative care sites are located at Imperial Valley College, Sacramento Sleep Train Arena, Porterville Developmental Center, and Fairview Developmental Center.
Following the approval of the Pfizer vaccine, the state administered 70,258 doses of the vaccine in the last week, Newsom said, and more shipments are arriving later this week.
