LOS ANGELES (AP) â Tiger Woods was driving more than 80 mph â nearly twice the posted speed limit â on a downhill stretch of road when he lost control of an SUV and crashed in a wreck that seriously injured the golf superstar, authorities said Wednesday.
Sheriff Alex Villanueva blamed the Feb. 23 crash outside Los Angeles solely on excessive speed and Woodsâ loss of control behind the wheel. The athlete will not face any citations for his third high-profile collision in 11 years.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff s Office has released the cause of Tiger Woods car crash on February 23. The primary causal factor for this traffic collision was driving at a speed unsafe for the road conditions and the inability to negotiate the curve of the roadway. Estimated speeds at the first area of impact were 84 to 87 miles per hour and the final estimated speed when the vehicle struck the tree was 75 miles per hour, Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said during a press conference on Wednesday.

Tiger Woods crash: LA County deputies to release investigation findings Wednesday

LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles County Sheriff s Department plans to release its findings in the Feb. 23 Tiger Woods crash Wednesday.
The latest development comes about a week after LASD said detectives have determined the cause of the Rolling Hills Estates crash involving the golf megastar but refused to release details at the time.
Woods suffered serious injuries after the Genesis GV-80 he was driving hit a raised median, lost control of the SUV and then hit a tree. Woods is currently recovering at home after being released from the hospital in mid-March.
