Who was Tara Baker? Tara Baker was born on Jan 20, 1977 in East Point, Georgia. She grew up in the small town of Lovejoy with her parents Lindsay and Virginia, and siblings Meredith, Adam and Kevin. Baker graduated from Love Joy High School in 1995 and went on to attend Georgia College and State University, where she graduated Cum Laude in 1998 with dual bachelor’s degrees in political science and paralegal studies. In addition to her studies, she interned with Forest Park attorney Jack Hancock and was an officer of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority at Georgia State. She stayed on to work with Hancock for more than a year before moving to Athens in 1999 to begin her studies at the law school while also working at Fortson & Bentley, a local law firm.

Spaulding Funeral Home and Facebook) The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and authorities in Athens are continuing to investigate the death of a 40-year-old transgender woman whose body was discovered in late December just a few hundred feet from her apartment.  A jogger found the body of Kimberely Patricia Cope in the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant on Baxter Street about 6 a.m. on Dec. 27. Three friends spending time at Cope’s apartment, also located on Baxter Street, hadn’t seen Cope for at least three hours.

UPDATE: On Wednesday, The Athens-Clarke County Police Department arrested the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash, according to a press release from the ACCPD. Clinton Jester, 37, is charged with eight offenses including homicide by vehicle, feticide by vehicle and reckless driving, according to the release. Jester is currently being held at the ACC Jail. A 27-year-old pregnant woman died Saturday in a single-vehicle car crash on Danielsville Road between Hull Road and Nowhere Road, according to a press release from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department. Police identified the woman as Alana Barnes, of Lavonia. Barnes was 15 weeks pregnant, and the fetus did not survive, according to the report.

A spokesperson for the Athens-Clarke County Police Department said that officers responded to the 200 block of North Avenue in reference to a shooting and soon find a male victim.  Police did not identify the victim or suggest whether he was an adult or a minor; however, they did say he was taken to the hospital with injuries not expected to be life-threatening.
