A residential development project on the east flank of Mont Owl’s Head is drawing the ire of the Memphremagog Conservation Inc. (MCI), as construction crews alter the natural landscape using dynamite and excessive backfilling.
The construction involves creating a new, roughly one kilometre road that will lead to four residential lots. The road is about 30 feet wide and 100 metres from Lake Memphremagog. Crews needed to carve into a steep, 45-degree slope in order to level off the surface.
MCI President Robert Benoit told The Record that this will be detrimental to the lake. He was already aware of the project’s existence. Destination Owl’s Head got the permit to build there a few years ago, Benoit explained, but he was still shocked to see the construction site.
With 3,800 signatures, petition submitted to have Memphremagog designated a Lake in Crisis
