The Lafayette Fire Department is mourning the loss of a firefighter who passed away after a battle with cancer.

Firefighters with the Lafayette Fire Department responded to a fire on Wednesday night at Express Inn Hotel, located at 1314 NE Evangeline Thruway in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Wednesday evening, Lafayette fire crews were dispatched to a house fire started by a space heater on West End Ave. Officials determined that a space heater placed too close to the bed ignited bedding.

A family of seven lost everything in a late-night house fire on Tuesday, January 16. Firefighters battled the fire for at least an hour before getting it under control.

A vacant house fire on West Gilman Street is currently being investigated by the Lafayette Fire Department.

On January 3, Lafayette firefighters responded to a house fire in the 100 block of Iantha Street. The home sustained heavy fire damage, and the neighbor’s car and house were also damaged.

According to the owners, the home had been vacant for approximately six months. There was also no utility service to the residence.
