President of the Antigua and Barbuda Nurses Association (ABNA) Soria Dupie-Winston said while she is pleased that frontline workers have been receiving the $1,000 honorarium promised by the government, she is concerned that her colleagues at Mount St John’s Medical Centre (MSJMC) have yet to benefit from it.
The government of Antigua and Barbuda decided to pay an honorarium of $1,000 per month to the diligent and self-sacrificing nurses who are on the frontlines, for as long as the COVID-19 crisis continues.
“I am indeed thankful that payment has started as it relates to the promised honorarium to frontline workers, and in particular nurses. I applaud the government for their efforts. But I am concerned about those at MSJMC. I have done my investigations and they have not yet received their money,” she said.

Winners and losers (Part II)

Some of the biggest winners in this most challenging year, 2020, were the healthcare workers and the first responders, they who daily placed their lives on the line to keep us healthy and safe. A grateful nation says thanks!
We also must salute and offer our thanks to the Chief Medical Officer, Dr Rhonda Sealey Thomas, the Chief Health Inspector, Sharon Martin, the Director of the Laboratory at the Mount St John’s Medical Centre (MSJMC), Dr Lester Simon, the Medical Director at the MSJMC, Dr. Albert Duncan, and the Minister of Health, Sir Molwyn Joseph. A Good Samaritan who apparently rushed to the defence of a woman who was being robbed was shot by the alleged assailants.
The unnamed man was taken to Mount St John’s Medical Centre yesterday afternoon following an incident at a food shop in Hilda Davis Drive.
Two young men are said to have approached the shop by bicycle shortly after 1.15 pm – and robbed the female attendant of an undisclosed sum of money, along with jewellery.
When she screamed for help, the man who was nearby came to her assistance.
He is believed to have been shot in the back before the attackers fled the scene by bike, police spokesman Inspector Frankie Thomas told Observer.
