Stabbing victim’s condition slowly improving, mother says

The mother of Shakeil Joseph said her son continues to improve despite remaining in the hospital’s intensive care unit.
The 24-year-old Tindale Road resident was stabbed multiple times about his body on May 6, the most serious of which was to his chest.
Yesterday, Abril Mullin told Observer that while Joseph remains in critical condition he has been showing some improvements.
“Well, yesterday we spoke to them and they told us that he woke up and he told them he was hungry; but he pulled out the breathing tube from his mouth so, they had to put it back in. His blood pressure, his heart rate was a little high yesterday [Thursday] because he started to get agitated because he wanted to talk; but he is getting there,” she explained.
Association head outlines incentives to address shortfall of nurses

A top nursing official believes that a variety of incentives need to be implemented by the relevant officials in order to address the migration of nurses in the country.
President of the Antigua and Barbuda Nurses Association (ABNA) Soria Dupie-Winston suggests that the availability of scholarships and even the offering of specialty nursing courses at the UWI Five Islands Campus could encourage nurses to remain in the country.
“I have spoken to several nurses and if this offered here, within two years of it being offered we will have our full quota of certified nurses,” she said yesterday as the ABNA observes Nurses Week.
Committal date set for man accused of attempting to murder coworker

A 30-year-old man charged with attempting to murder his coworker, made his first appearance in the St John’s Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
Youseff Dion Mc Dougal of Villa was charged in connection with the stabbing of Shaquille Joseph, who has been listed in critical condition at Mount St John’s Medical Centre (MSJMC).
Joseph, of Tindale Road, received stabbed multiple wounds about his body last Thursday, the most serious of which was to his chest, reportedly near his heart.
The victim, who turned 24 years old on Saturday, was also said to have been wounded in his back and diaphragm.
Man charged for last Thursday’s stabbing
A 30-year-old youth has been charged in connection with the stabbing of Shaquille Joseph, who remains in hospital, in serious condition, due to the injuries he sustained.
Police have arrested and charged Youseff Dion Mc Dougal with the attempted murder of the Tindale Road resident.
Mc Dougal, who resides in Villa, is accused of stabbing Joseph multiple times about his body last Thursday.
Based on reports, wounds were allegedly inflicted during an altercation in the Golden Grove area while both men were on the job.
Joseph and Mc Dougal are both employees of the National Solid Waste Management Authority.

Yesterday afternoon, the mother of Shaquille Joseph told Observer
media that her son, who was a patient in the Intensive Care Unit at MSJMC, had lapsed into a coma.
“He’s not conscious; he’s in a coma,” she said somberly.
Joseph’s mother is also appealing to the public to donate O-positive blood to help save her son’s life.
She also disclosed that he had been stabbed three times during the incident: “one to his heart, diaphragm, and back. The one in his back is not so serious but the other two are very serious,” she shared.
