The U.S. military is boosting its presence in Afghanistan and the Middle East region for security purposes ahead of beginning a full withdrawal, the Pentagon announced Friday.
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has approved the addition of a number of long-range B-52 bombers to Afghanistan, two of which have already arrived in the region, and will keep the aircraft carrier USS Eisenhower in the Gulf, Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby said during a press conference.
