Experience a St Patrick s Day like no other with a virtual tour of Kilmainham Gaol in the heart of Dublin, Ireland. The Irish Club of Luxembourg, in partnership with the Ireland-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce and the Luxembourg branch of Comhaltas Ceolteoiri Eireann, is organising an online guided tour of Kilmainham Gaol. The 40-minute tour will take virtual visitors through the building which witnessed much of Ireland’s history. It opened in 1796 and closed its doors in 1924 but symbologises the tradition of militant and constitutional nationalism, from the rebellion of 1798 to the Irish Civil War of 1922-23. Many Irish revolutionaries, political and military leaders were imprisoned in the building, and the Gaol was also the site of executions in the past. It also held ordinary citizens charged with petty or serious crimes throughout its history.
