Man charged with arson after apartment building fire in Iowa City 32-year-old Ishmael Shabazz Carter IOWA CITY, Iowa (KWWL) - Police have charged a 32-year-old man with First Degree Arson after a fire in Iowa City Sunday night. Police and firefighters responded to 612 E. Court Street around 11:15 p.m. Sunday for a structure fire. Crews needed 20 minutes to put the fire out and four occupants had to take cover on the third-floor balcony while the fire was being put out. The third floor of the building was heavily damaged and there is smoke damage throughout. The damage is estimated at $50,000. No one was injured in the fire.
