Feb. 16—Mike Meredith owes his life — and his heart — to an organ donor. If there hadn't been a "Y" on the driver's license of the young man who died, there's a chance "Miracle Mike" might not be alive today. But because that man, that son, that loved one signified he was an organ donor, he would save the lives of a number of people when he was unable to recover from his own injuries. That .

Claire Tillotson felt like a fairy tale princess all three times she attended Burlington High School s prom.
The BHS 2016 graduate loved finding that special gown, getting glammed up and having fun. It s one of the times I felt the most gorgeous, so confident. I loved showing off my personal style, said Tillotson, the current Miss Okoboji, who has an eye for fashion and now enjoys dressing up for pageants.
She knows prom dresses can be expensive and oftentimes hang unworn in the closet after the big event. When I was shopping for prom dresses a few years ago, I spent a ton of money on something I wore once, she said. I saved up for months to be able to afford something absolutely stunning.

Most north Iowans and southern Minnesotans usually don’t think about donating organs and tissue until the inevitable time comes. Leaving that decision for immediate family isn’t always fair because of the grief they are going through. That is why there is a push to get local residents to consider and sign up to donate organs and tissue ahead of time.
Heather Butterfield is a spokesperson for the Iowa Donor Network. She know the value of having these family conversations and making these decisions now.
People have a hard time bringing up the subject, especially young couples who may not be thinking about the future a long time down the road. Butterfield said to pick a time when the two of you can honestly discuss the idea.

IOWA -The Iowa Donor Network says a record number of residents have donated organs for the third year in a row.

There s also been an 87 percent increase in organ donations in the state in the past five years.
The Donor Network says the record numbers are transforming lives.

If one story can be both sad and wonderful at the same time, it s this one.
It s never easy to lose a loved one, but it s comforting to know that loss may help the life of others and there were reportedly a record number of those life-saving gifts in Iowa in 2020.
CBS2 reports news from the Iowa Donor Network that despite the pandemic and its concerns and restrictions, this past year saw the highest number of organ donations ever in the state. By extension, this resulted in the most organ transplants.
There were 103 deceased organ donors and 300 transplants altogether. That beats a record, set no so long ago in 2019. It s a 12-percent increase in donations and a 4-percent rise in transplants which tells us how vital the unselfishness and generosity of Iowans can be.
