Especially for You Receives $10,000 Grant
It s another case of the community s corporate and charitable leaders working together.
Almost everyone has been touched by cancer in their lives and CBS2 reports that in that spirit, West Side Transport has awarded its annual Convoy for a Cure grant to Cedar Rapids
Especially for You Race Against Breast Cancer (EFY). It s given every year to an organization making a difference in raising awareness of cancer and other causes in the community, starting back in 2017 with Gems of Hope.
A West Side Transport spokesperson told CBS2 that EFY had been chosen for its annual award this year in part because several of its employees had either battled cancer or had loved ones who fought it. It seemed a natural fit, for many reasons, not the least of which included EFY being one of the largest and most visible charity organizations and fundraisers in the community, that was among many having to significantly scale back its activities this past
If one story can be both sad and wonderful at the same time, it s this one.
It s never easy to lose a loved one, but it s comforting to know that loss may help the life of others and there were reportedly a record number of those life-saving gifts in Iowa in 2020.
CBS2 reports news from the Iowa Donor Network that despite the pandemic and its concerns and restrictions, this past year saw the highest number of organ donations ever in the state. By extension, this resulted in the most organ transplants.
There were 103 deceased organ donors and 300 transplants altogether. That beats a record, set no so long ago in 2019. It s a 12-percent increase in donations and a 4-percent rise in transplants which tells us how vital the unselfishness and generosity of Iowans can be.
