ISU Startup Factory names new director Thursday, January 21, 2021 2:38 PM Peter Hong has been named the new director of the Iowa State University Startup Factory program. According to a news release from the ISU Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship, Hong will begin his new duties on Feb. 1. He succeeds Bill Adamdowski, the Startup Factory’s inaugural president who resigned in February 2020, and Kris Johansen, who served as interim director. According to the release, Hong will lead the Startup Factory and facilitate other ISU-based venture programming initiatives. He also will work with BioConnect Iowa to manage, develop and run the new Iowa Go-To-Market (G2M) Accelerator, which is part of a $1.29 million federally funded program. G2M is set to launch in early 2021, and will offer support and training for companies developing technology driven products and services. Iowa agriculture: Story City shrimp farm receives statewide recognition

Ames Tribune Story City s newest seafood company, Midland Co., has been awarded a statewide  small business of the month award from America’s Small Business Development Center Iowa.  The business, which is located in Story City s old factory outlet mall and occupies 20,000 square feet, uses sustainable, environmentally friendly methods to raise shrimp in the Midwest. Owner Jackson Kimle participated in ISU s Agricultural Entrepreneurship Initiative and ISU Startup Factory programs, according to the release. America s SBDC Iowa is a program between Iowa State University’s Ivy College of Business and the Office of Economic Development and Industry Relations.  Jackson has been working with the SBDC center at Iowa State University since June of 2019 when they were interested in applying for funding from the Wellmark Community Venture Capital Fund,  the release states. They were successful in receiving funding from this program which was used to leverage private equity
