Pella Windows & Doors adding 120 new jobs at southeast Iowa factory

Pella Windows & Doors is adding new assembly lines to its Shenandoah factory.  Pella, based in the city for which it is named, is shifting all production of wooden, double-hung windows to the southeast Iowa location from a factory in Macomb, Illinois. The company will hire 120 workers in Shenandoah, paying them at least $20.58 an hour, according to an agreement with the Iowa Economic Development Authority. Pella will spend $5.6 million on machines for the new lines, according to the authority. The authority s board approved a $200,000 forgivable loan for Pella on Friday. The city of Shenandoah will provide an additional $40,000 forgivable loan. The company will add assembly lines to the Shenandoah plant in December and February, bringing the total number of lines at the factory to seven. Pella currently employs 303 workers there, according to the authority.

(Creative Commons photo via PxHere.com) The state would offer grants of up to $50,000 to small-scale butchers under rules that won preliminary approval of the Iowa Economic Development Authority board Friday.  The rules, for which the board approved a “notice of intended action,” would implement House File 857, approved by lawmakers earlier this year. That legislation set up the Butchery Innovation and Revitalization Fund in cooperation with the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship.
