Unionist politicians, angered by disruption to shopping and trade with Great Britain, now call for the protocol that imposed a new Britain-Northern Ireland border to be scrapped. In Protestant areas of County Antrim youths rioted last month, egged on by loyalist paramilitaries. Last week Northern Ireland’s first minister, Arlene Foster, was forced to resign by her party, having reluctantly accepted the protocol as the least bad solution.

Minister Coveney launches new human rights guidance for business enterprises

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence, Simon Coveney, will today launch new guidance human rights for business enterprises. The guidance was developed by a multi-stakeholder group as part of the implementation of the National Plan on Business and Human Rights.
Speaking in advance of the launch, Minister Coveney said: While business enterprises are, in general, a force for good around the world, there are cases where businesses may impact human rights. These impacts may be through direct activities or through business relationships- in other words - through operations and the value chain.

Ireland’s exporters are calling on the government to implement a national strategic plan for air cargo on and off the island, warning of an impending crisis for manufacturing companies if air travel continues to be limited.
