MINSK, 16 December (BelTA) – The Belarusian nuclear power plant had all the necessary conditions for experts of the European Nuclear Safety Regulators Group (ENSREG) to work, the press service of the Belarusian Energy Ministry told BelTA.
The source noted: “As for the organization of the visit of European experts to the construction site of the Belarusian nuclear power plant on 16-18 December, everything was ready at the site. The itinerary was worked out in detail. It provided for a trip to facilities and installations of the Belarusian nuclear power plant and for the necessary consultations with the management and specialists of the nuclear power plant, with representatives of Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry (Gosatomnadzor) taking part. The relevant materials had been prepared. Organizational issues had been addressed in order to enable comfortable conditions for the work of the expert group.”

The message reads: “In response to yesterday s statement by the Lithuanian minister of foreign affairs we would like to remark that before making bold statements about ‘Belarus irresponsible attitude to nuclear safety one should obtain serious facts. But we cannot hear them because there are none. It is unlikely the international community seriously accepts such attempts to smear our country s reputation. Everyone knows that you need facts to prove something.”

The European Nuclear Safety Regulators Group (ENSREG) will not travel to Belarus to inspect the Astravyets nuclear plant after Minsk has failed to cooperate.
“The Belarusian regulator did not participate in the necessary preparatory technical meetings scheduled for [Monday] to prepare the onsite visit of the peer review team,” European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson said on Tuesday, according to Politico Europe.
Lithuania, the most ardent critic of the nuclear plant built some 50 kilometres from Vilnius, says that Minsk has failed to implement the EU’s stress test recommendations.

Visit of European experts to Belarusian nuclear power plant cancelled
MINSK, 16 December (BelTA) – A group of European experts was supposed to visit the Belarusian nuclear power plant on 16-18 December. However, the visit will not happen, representatives of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry (Gosatomnadzor) told BelTA.
Gosatomnadzor said: “According to routine information from the ENSREG peer review team, European partners have decided to cancel their visit to Belarus on 16-18 December. However, the Belarusian side has yet to receive an official notification that the visit has been cancelled.”
The source noted that the Belarusian side had accommodated all the requirements of European partners in order to make this visit happen in the current complicated epidemic conditions.
