Slow Food Launches the “Flower Bomb Challenge”! 26 April 2021

Margaret Atwood’s words of wisdom inspired us: spring made its come back, it is time to get our hands dirty!
Starting on May 5, Slow Food will kick start the “Flower Bomb Challenge”.
Participants will have two weeks to make their “flower bombs” (a mix of wildflower seeds, clay and soil) and will be invited to throw them around in their garden or in public spaces on World Bee Day (May 20) and the following weekend.
This campaign aims at raising awareness on the dramatic decline of pollinators and biodiversity in Europe. Through the power of this collective action, we hope to engage more people in taking action to save pollinators and the ecosystems they rely on to survive.
Three members of the European Commission have reacted positively to a public petition requesting the phase-out of cage rearing in the EU, expressing support to the initiative.
On Thursday (15 April), promoters of the European Citizens Initiative (ECI) “End of cage age” presented the campaign before European lawmakers at a joint public hearing of the European Parliament’s petition (PETI) and agriculture (AGRI) committees.
Citizen initiatives allow petitions that reach the one million signatures threshold to be discussed by the European Commission, which can decide to put forward a legislative proposal on the matter.
With 1.4 million signatures from more than 18 member states, campaigners for the “End of cage age” met the requirements and are now waiting for the Commission’s response.

A European initiative invites us to crowdfund Basic Incomes of 800 euros for one year. The lucky ones will be chosen through a raffle and then will tell us their experience and the changes in their daily lives so that through these testimonies we can learn what it is like to live in the 21st century Europe with a basic income of 800 euros every month.
This initiative was launched to support the petition of the European Citizens Initiative for Unconditional Basic Incomes, which already has the 11% of the necessary signatures.
