Limerick has continued to build alliances across Europe as part of the series of events to mark European Week of Regions and Cities.
The initiative sees national and regional bodies come together with citizen organisations and businesses to share their ideas on growth and job creation, as well as demonstrating how to implement European Union cohesion policy.
This year the focus was on building a green, digital economy in a European way, which leaves no region behind, the European Green Deal and the opportunity it presents to deliver a sustainable economic recovery post Covid.

Europol, the EU s law enforcement intelligence agency, and the European Commission are launching a new decryption platform to help law enforcement agencies decrypt data that has been obtained as part of a criminal investigation.
By circumventing encryption rather than weakening it, Europol s approach aims to satisfy both law enforcement agencies and privacy advocates, says Jim Killock, executive director at the Open Rights Group. Where police are authorized by an independent authority to gain passwords or crack a device, then getting around encryption is legitimate, he says. What is not legitimate is weakening encryption for the vast majority of us who are innocent bystanders and need security from crime, or stockpiling knowledge of software vulnerabilities which expose everyone to ongoing risks from criminals.

What: SRMs 1992 and 1993 are new standardsdeveloped in a partnership with the European Commission Joint Research Centre to address a critical need for traceability in the measurement of zeta potential by electrophoretic light scattering and electroacoustic methods. They consist of colloidal silica particles suspended in an aqueous borate buffer at pH 8.9. SRM 1992 has a nominal solids mass fraction of 0.15 % and is ideal for light scattering methods, whereas SRM 1993 has a mass fraction of 2.2 % and is appropriate for calibration of electroacoustic instruments.
Why: SRMs 1992 and 1993 are essential for verifying correct performance of instruments that measure the electrophoretic mobility or zeta potential of nanomaterials and colloidal particles dispersed in aqueous media.
