Macroeconomic dialogue at political level, 15 March 2021 The 42nd meeting of the macroeconomic dialogue at political level focused on the economic outlook and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the EU labour market, with a focus on challenges and prospects for the recovery and resilience plans. As Europe enters its second year of fighting the pandemic, member states are called to address an increasing number of economic and social challenges. The social partners have here a key role to play in helping governments to successfully tackle and overcome difficulties. Today, we had a constructive and valuable exchange on the impact of the pandemic on the EU labour market, touching upon the opportunity represented by the Recovery and Resilience Facility to address future challenges. It is now time to move with full speed on the implementation of this facility to deliver the investments and reforms that will pull Europe out of this crisis and pave the way for recovery.

International speakers debate the Future of Work

The High-Level Conference on the Future of Work, organised under the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union, was on the theme of “Remote Working: Challenges, Risk and Opportunities”. Throughout the day, the different speakers looked at the changes in the labour market in recent years, particularly the new ways of working and of organising working time, reconciling professional and personal life and the right to disconnect. , Session I - “Teleworking: an overview of the trends, opportunities, challenges and risks” The panel, moderated by the Deputy Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, Miguel Cabrita, focused on the challenges of teleworking, which have become more evident during the COVID-19 pandemic.
