Bicyclist struck, killed by train in downtown Oxnard Staff reports View Comments A bicyclist was killed after being struck by a train in downtown Oxnard late Tuesday morning, authorities said. The collision, reported at11:09 a.m., occurred as the 32-year-old victim was riding on the northbound tracks leading to the Oxnard Transit Center at Fourth and Meta streets, according to fire, police and railroad reports. Oxnard Police Cmdr. Luis McArthur said the cyclist was about 100 yards south of the transit center as an Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train approached from behind. The conductor sounded the horn several times but the cyclist remained on the tracks, he said. The train couldn t stop in time before hitting the rider.

Firefighters knock down tree fire in Oxnard

Joyce Roberson / KEYT OXNARD, Calif. Firefighters knocked down a tree fire in Oxnard on early Tuesday morning. On Tuesday at around 5:21 a.m., Oxnard City Fire responded to reports of a structure fire on the 200 block of East 4th Street in Oxnard. At arrival, firefighters found trees on fire by the Oxnard Transit Center. Fire officials say a small encampment was on fire along with the trees near a vacant building. The railroad tracks are closed in that area. The tracks are used by business to transport merchandise off trains . Commuter tracks are not affected. Firefighters were able to knock down the fire.
