Every option on the table as LTC union escalates push for vaccination

LONDON, ONT. The call from London Transit workers for priority vaccination grew louder on Thursday with the backing of the Amalgamated Transit Union’s (ATU) National President John Di Nino. “Our operators intersect daily with hundreds of riders. Nationally it’s about 1.5 million rides every month,” says Di Nino. There has been one recovery this week, lowering the number of active COVID-19 cases among London Transit workers from seven to six. Two of the employees are hospitalized. The union is making a nationwide push for adequate COVID-19 protection in the workplace, and to prioritize transit workers for vaccination. In Ontario, transit workers are among a massive cohort of essential workers (who can’t work from home) still awaiting an opportunity to be vaccinated.

Drivers concerned as seven LTC workers test positive for COVID-19

LONDON, ONT. CTV News has learned that seven employees at the London Transit Commission (LTC) are currently positive for COVID-19. The union says bus drivers are now expressing fear about possibly contracting the illness while providing the essential service. While ridership continues to lag well below average, London Transit remains an economic and mobility lifeline for tens of thousands of people. But since late last week seven positive tests for COVID-19 have been reported by LTC employees. LTC General Manager Kelly Paleczny tells CTV News that so far service hasn’t been impacted. Based on the number of staff right now, we re able to maintain service levels. Obviously that s something we re going to continue to monitor.
