YouTube restores News Corp-owned TalkRadio s channel after brief suspension

9:00 AM MYT YouTube’s suspension of TalkRadio could be related to the London-based station’s claims regarding Covid-19, the BBC reported. Reuters LOS ANGELES: YouTube pulled down the channel of UK radio station TalkRadio, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp, for apparent violations of its Covid-19 misinformation guidelines – but restored it shortly after “further review”. TalkRadio’s YouTube channel was briefly suspended, but upon further review, has now been reinstated,” YouTube said in a statement. Google reinstated TalkRadio s YouTube channel following a government intervention, less than a day after the tech giant s censorship sparked a freedom of speech backlash.  YouTube, which is owned by Google, terminated the radio station s account amid claims the broadcaster violated the website s community guidelines by airing criticism of coronavirus lockdowns.   MailOnline now understands that the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport made inquiries yesterday about what appeared to be an extraordinary clampdown on dissent by Google. A source close to Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden said: Protecting freedom of speech was a key part of what he announced on the online harms work.  Google declined to comment.

One of the many problems with the slow descent into conspiratorial madness unfolding across conservative media and within the Republican Party is that once you’ve reached a point where the president is dialing up state election officials to babble on about nonsensical things he saw on the internet about dead people voting and election workers setting fire to ballots, you realize there s no bottom. Donald Trump’s desperate attempt to cling to power has led his followers (even further) down the path to crazy town. A recent claim about the U.S. election being manipulated from Italy shows just how nutty the world of right-wing conspiracy theories has become.
