Both were canceled because the government was not prepared to grant concessions to current pandemic laws to enable people to travel to the events from overseas. The chances of the Australian Open tennis going ahead in January have also been questioned.

The original story continues unchanged below. 11:45am: The Victorian Government is today set to announce the cancellation of the Formula One Australian Grand Prix and the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix. The F1 calendar has undergone revisions already this season, with Canada replaced by Turkey, and just recently Singapore announced its cancellation for the second year in a row. The 2021 Formula One Australian Grand Prix was set to take place in Melbourne 19-21 November – moving from its usual sport in March as the season opener. Due to the global pandemic, it s understood that a solution has not been found to allow the international contingent to enter into the country.
