A CAVALCADE wound through the streets of Manchester on Saturday in support of 400 striking bus workers fighting bosses’ attempts to “fire and rehire” them.
More than 40 vehicles, organised by Manchester People’s Assembly, wound from the city centre to the depot where strikers and supporters lined the street to welcome them, applauding and waving flags of the bus workers’ union Unite.
After the cavalcade arrived a rally took place on a school field near the depot.
The strike action by drivers at profiteer Go North West’s Queens Road depot began on February 28 to resist the attack on their wages and conditions.

Saica Group: modernising our terms of employment is crucial
Unite members at Saica Pack s Edinburgh and Milngavie sites in Scotland started an official overtime ban on Sunday (14 March), with 24-hour stoppages planned on 17 March and weekly on Wednesdays after that.

A PROBE into a company boss was demanded by Unite today after he allegedly claimed Covid-19 furlough payments for his workforce without passing them on.
The union said that Nicolas Marks, boss of Preston-based caravan builder Lunar Automotive, owes workers £170,000 and has forced them to use foodbanks to survive during the pandemic.
Unite wants HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) to investigate the “elusive” boss over the missing money.
The union said today that Mr Marks had “gone to ground” and that Unite had 27 outstanding employment tribunal claims against the company, including breach of contract and unlawful deduction of wages.
Unite understands that the company was evicted from its Preston site for failing to meet its commitments to the landlord and has now decamped to Blackpool 14 miles away.
