Australia Post workers support campaign to reinstate London bus driver David O’Sullivan A meeting on Sunday of the Postal Workers Rank and File Committee in Australia unanimously supported a resolution in defence of David O’Sullivan, who has been persecuted for defending worker’s rights to health and safety in their workplace. O’Sullivan was sacked after he sounded the alarm at the Cricklewood bus garage in London over the spread of the coronavirus infection. Unite s assistant general secretary Howard Beckett - who is standing for the leadership of the major union - apologised for the social media message. Mr Beckett sits on Labour s ruling national executive committee but it is understood that he has now been suspended by the party. Mr Beckett made the remarks following protests in Glasgow over the detention of two men by Border Force officials. Police Scotland released the Indian nationals after people surrounded the immigration enforcement van and prevented it from leaving on Thursday.

Unions To Present Pathways To Residency Petition To MPs – Unite Union

Unite Union and the Migrant Workers Association presented a 15,000-strong petition on Monday May 10, to both a Green and Labour Party MP at the union offices in Auckland Green MP and Immigration spokesperson Ricardo Menéndez March and Labour MP Marja Lubeck who chairs the Education and Workforce Select Committee of Parliament, received the petition. Unite Union advocate Mike Treen said that “the petition essentially calls on the government to use the Covid crisis as an opportunity to fix long-standing problems associated with New Zealand’s temporary migration system. Pre-Covid New Zealand had over 300,000 people here on temporary work visas. But many of these visa holders had been sold a promise that they would get residency eventually that New Zealand had failed to follow through on. In fact in the last three years it has been made much more difficult.
