Tripoli, Jun 3 (EFE).- Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez met his Libyan counterpart Abdulhamid Dbeibeh in the capital Tripoli on Thursday and offered his nation’s support in achieving stability in the North African country.
Sanchez’s comments came ahead of the reopening event of the Spanish embassy after a closure that lasted nearly seven years when Libya descended into a civil conflict.
In a show of support for Libya’s new unity government, Sanchez traveled to Tripoli along with Spanish Foreign Minister Arancha González Laya and a group of businesspeople with investment plans.

Peace in Libya Will Require More Than Elections
This time last year, the Libyan capital was caught up in a year-old military campaign that had further internationalized the country’s dangerous divisions. Today, there is a new mood of cautious optimism in Tripoli. In October, negotiators from the two main warring sides the United Nations-backed Government of National Accord and forces led by Khalifa Haftar, a commander based in eastern Libya reached a cease-fire agreement that allowed for the resumption of a U.N.-led dialogue process. This in turn paved the way to the formation of Libya’s first unified government since the country slid into civil war in 2014.
Turkey and Egypt’s cold diplomatic relations have been ongoing for almost 8 years. The two nations initially severed ties in 2013 after Egypt’s first democratically elected president Mohammed Morsi, long supported by Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, was ousted by the military. According to Al Jazeera, after this turbulent period, Turkey’s foreign minister Çavuşoğlu has stated that a new chapter is beginning between the two nations as Ankara moves forward with normalizing relations with Cairo.
As noted by The Media Line, a recent sign last Friday of the warming relations between Egypt and Turkey was Ankara’s offer to aid Egypt with its Suez Canal crisis by sending a tugboat to facilitate the movement of the large container ship blocking the canal. According to Transport and Infrastructure Minister Adil Karaismailoglu, Turkey would willingly dispatch the Nene Hatun emergency response ship, one of the few ships globally able to assist with such an arduous operation,
