Dec 23, 2020 One more death and five new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in an Ogdensburg nursing home, in an outbreak now linked to 21 fatalities.
204 residents and staff of the facility run by United Helpers since November and five people are currently hospitalized.
United Helpers CEO Steve Knight said Tuesday that a fire evacuation last month may have contributed to the spread of the virus.
At United Helpers Rehabilitation and Senior Care Center in Canton, three more staff members and eleven residents tested positive, bringing the total number of cases to 49. No deaths have occurred. One person is currently in hospital.

Dec 17, 2020 United Helpers reported one additional death but no new cases of COVID-19 detected among staff or residents of its rehabilitation and senior care in Ogdensburg in the previous 24 hours.
The latest death brings the total linked to the coronavirus outbreak at the facility to 17. Six people are currently hospitalized.
Since Nov. 22, 124 residents and 74 staff members have tested positive for the virus.
Administrator Tim Parsons said that not all of the 121 residents currently in the facility have been diagnosed with coronavirus. Our census was much higher earlier on. The census has dropped due to hospitalizations, deaths (both COVID and non-COVID), and discharges home, he wrote, including departures of short-term rehabilitation patients.
