[Photo/Agencies] California, Texas and New York saw the most overall growth in their Asian populations between 2000 and 2019, but two states in the US hinterlands North and South Dakota saw the largest percentage increase. The numbers came from a Pew Research Center analysis of preliminary US Census Bureau population estimates released Thursday. The center, based in Washington DC, describes itself as a nonpartisan fact tank . The Census Bureau will gradually release its 2020 census details over the next several months.

Yuanlai Zhang a minister who lived among 13 million others in the hot and humid Chinese city of Shenzhen to start a new life on the sparse and frigid prairie of North Dakota. But Zhang has become a man of the plains. A Mandarin-language preacher who travels the state with a Bible and a pressed suit, he lives with his wife and toddler in suburban Fargo. He’s the first full-time pastor at the Red River Valley Chinese Christian Church, which was founded five years ago and whose 50-family congregation is the largest Chinese Christian flock in North Dakota.

Vigil at MSUM honors those recently killed in Atlanta shootings

KVRR Local News April 7, 2021 MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) – Eight candles sat side by side at the MSUM Campus Mall Wednesday afternoon; each one representing a person whose life was recently taken during the Atlanta shootings. “It’s really bothering me and I just feel really angry towards what happened. Look at those innocent victims,” said Dr. Gongjun Shi. Shi is an NDSU research specialist and volunteer program director at United Chinese Americans Fargo-Moorhead, a local non-profit. Although he feels safe here, Shi says he worries about Asian Americans, especially elders and women, in other parts of the country. “For some of my friends, their parents visiting here. They just reduce the frequency to walk outside,” he explained.
