The UN Development Programme and International Labor Organization (ILO), in partnership with the Government of Solomon Islands, are empowering Solomon Islands’ youth and promoting their role as agents of peace and resilience.
This is done through community-based projects within the Empowering Youth as Agents for Peace and Social Cohesion in the Solomon Islands Project’s framework.

A US$2.8 million (K11,695,000.00) Sustaining Peace through Economic Empowerment Project in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (ARoB), was launched yesterday, Friday 28 May, 2021.
The project supports the implementation of the Bougainville Peace Agreement toward economic growth and development.
It was launched by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Papua New Guinea, the National Government and the Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG).
Funded by the Government of Japan, the Project is designed to support the ongoing Bougainville peacebuilding process for political and economic progress.
The project will support the establishment of innovation centers that create opportunities for entrepreneurs, business development, and life skills.

I thank the Stockholm Forum organizers for inviting me to this timely discussion and I am pleased to address this panel as the Chair of the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission.
Given the strong case for peacebuilding and sustaining peace that has been made time and time again, there is indeed a mismatch between rhetoric and reality. Peacebuilding is chronically underfunded and peacebuilding financing remains unpredictable and heavily dependent on a small group of donors. As we all know, Official Development Assistance to conflict-affected countries has been under severe pressure, and has worsened as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, we acutely need to “double down” and prioritize peacebuilding financing and achieve maximum effect for our investments.
