United Nations/Mongolia Workshop on the Applications of Global Navigation Satellite Systems, 13 - 17 April 2020, Online/Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

  Overview The availability of global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) and other space-based systems is creating an unprecedented opportunity, bringing benefits in the areas of emergency management, marine and land monitoring or fleet control to name a few. Due to this availability, the development of integrated applications is an area in rapid expansion. To address a wide array of GNSS applications for socioeconomic benefits and to focus on initiating pilot projects and strengthening the networking of GNSS-related institutions in the region, a five-day Workshop will be held in hybrid format in Ulaanbaatar, from 25 to 29 October 2021. For details, see The Workshop programme will include plenary sessions described below and also sufficient time for discussions among participants to identify the priority areas, where pilot projects should be launched and examine possible partnerships that could be established.   Aligning with the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 and the United Nations Disability Inclusion Strategy, the Office aims to contribute to inclusive, equitable and sustainable development in space through the Space for People with Disabilities project. One of the aims of this project is to engage people with disabilities with space science, thus enhancing prospects for people to progress into careers in STEM and engage decision-makers to facilitate and assist initiatives targeting inclusivity in space science. In doing so, the project strives to contribute to Sustainable Development Goal SDG 11: Reduced Inequalities, in addition to SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

Space4Youth Stories Cracking the shell of a hard-science dominated sector: my experience as a young political scientist presenting research at a space tech conference - by  Sam Arne Whalley  Having spent years aspiring to enter the space sector as a political scientist, when, at 20 years old, an associate of mine staunchly declared that 99% of jobs in the sector are just for hard scientists , to say I was simply disappointed would have been an understatement. I was in the midst of a bachelor s degree in International Relations, and had recently been elected one of the youngest ever Fellows of the Royal Astronomical Society in London as a result of my writings on matters related to Green Space Politics, particularly focusing on the worsening state of the so-called Orbital Space Debris Crisis .
