Biomass for heat and power in the UK Biomass can be used in the production of heat and electricity, as one alternative to fossil fuels. Its use is expected to increase significantly in the coming years in order to meet renewable energy targets. Our vision for bioenergy
We want bioenergy to be an environmentally sustainable element of the UK s low-carbon energy mix, making a limited but important contribution to reducing emissions and mitigating climate change.
This can be achieved through prioritising the most carbon-effective and sustainable means of bioenergy production and use, in a way which limits damage to and preferably benefits biodiversity.

The Panama Canal has launched its process of decarbonizing its operations, targeting to become carbon neutral by 2030.
The waterway is seen as a solid way for shipping companies to cut their environmental footprint being a shorter route for ships.
In 2020, the canal authority said it had contributed to a reduction of more than 13 million tons of CO2 equivalent emissions. Related Article Posted: 2 months ago
However, the waterway believes now is the time to make its own operations carbon neutral by the end of the decade.

EPA Releases 28th Annual GHG Inventory
On April 14, 2021, the EPA announced in a press release the release of its 28th annual “Inventory of U.S. Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Sinks (GHG Inventory), which presents a national-level overview of annual greenhouse gas emissions from 1990 to 2019.”
The EPA reports 2019 net U.S. GHG emissions were 5,769 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (after accounting for sequestration from the land sector), which is a 1.7% decrease from the 2018–2019 report.
“While many long-term and short-term factors influence annual greenhouse gas emissions in recent years, the downward GHG emissions trend can be largely attributed to falling emissions in the electric power sector,” according to the press release.
