After spending over a decade working under the leadership of Congressman John Conyers (ranking member, House Judiciary Committee) as a congressional staffer, Knott furthered her interest in the political arena by joining the staff of Detroiters Working for Environmental Justice (DWEJ) as policy director. DWEJ is an award-winning social enterprise, dedicated to Detroit becoming the global model of a vibrant urban center, with an emphasis on promoting sustainable redevelopment and environmental justice.
As an environmental justice advocate, Knott arranged a “Toxic Tour” for government officials and business leaders, to raise awareness of the environmental issues impacting Detroit’s neighborhoods. Due to her successful advocacy efforts, she was invited to speak to the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Rule Writers. Belizean Youth Invited to Apply for Italian Conference on Climate
If you are a young Belizean passionate about climate change, the Italian Embassy in Mexico City is looking for delegates to send to a youth climate summit in Milan this September. Successful applicants will join four hundred of their peers aged fifteen to twenty-nine from United Nations member countries. You must be able to demonstrate activism in programs or initiatives centered on climate change or sustainable development and respond to a questionnaire. The selection committee includes the Office of the Envoy of the UN-Secretary General on Youth, the Children and Youth Constituency of the United Nations Framework on Climate Change and the Italian Ministry of the Environment. All expenses to Italy will be covered for the chosen delegates. If you are interested, you must hurry, however, because applications close on February 28.
