Climate Solutions: Saving Our Living Planet

Several animal populations are in danger of extinction. The impact reaches far beyond the potential loss of iconic species like tigers, rhinos, and whales. Animal extinction contributes to the undoing of our planet's sustainability, the balance of biodiversity that affects every living being on Earth. Washington Post Live will share the stories and perspectives of individuals working to protect the lives of endangered animals around the world. We will bring together scientists, conservationists, and wildlife activists who are championing new proposals for protecting the health of our living planet, combating deforestation, and tackling continuing harmful wildlife trades. Join us on Tuesday, March 9 at 10:00am ET.

Hourglass running out: Sand becoming scarce world over due to soaring demand

Follow RT on The world’s most consumed raw material after water and an essential ingredient to people’s everyday lives is slipping through our fingers, scientists warn. Close Authorship Given the devastating economic toll the COVID-19 pandemic has had on women and girls, the imperative to mark International Women’s Day carries more weight than usual this year.  The idea of a day celebrating the accomplishments of the female gender in the U.S. reaches back to 1909. Throughout the subsequent decade, the concept was embraced by countries including Austria, Denmark, Germany, Russia and Switzerland, but it wasn’t until 1975 that the first International Women’s Day was celebrated and adopted by the United Nations. As I began identifying leaders to include on this third annual list, I was inspired by the introduction to All We Can Save, an essay and poem collection co-edited by marine biologist Ayana Elizabeth Johnson (who you can find on this year’s list) and Katharine Wilkinson (who we recognized on the first Badass Women list in 2019).
