Web Summit puts its event software up for sale, announces 50 new hires

Web Summit puts its event software up for sale, announces 50 new hires Major tech conference/exhibition Web Summit is joining the gold rush for virtual event platforms, as it announces its event software is now for sale. The company’s first customer for its software is the United Nations Development Programme. Web Summit is an event that makes heavy use of technology, with aspects of registration, networking, and more taking place via the event’s app. This software will now be used by the United Nations Development Programme Istanbul Innovation Days, taking place from March 23-25. The news was announced by Web Summit CEO Paddy Cosgrave in a blog, where he said: “Until now, we’ve kept our event software to ourselves. Today, that changes with the United Nations Development Programme. And, in the coming years, we hope to help power many of the world’s leading events, as well as the events of many of the world’s leading organisations.”

Web Summit to hire 50 more people in software licensing move

The Web Summit is to hire 50 more people as it begins licensing its conference software amid a global shutdown in the physical conferencing business. Paddy Cosgrave’s company has announced a first customer for its licensing scheme, the United Nations Development Programme. The body will use the software later this month for an event in Turkey. The in-person global conferencing business has ground to a halt worldwide and is not expected to recover this year. While Zoom and other online video platforms have stepped in, a handful of online conferencing software systems are beginning to emerge as larger, fit-for-purpose alternatives.
